Author Norman Ceasar sits down with Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Kate Delaney on the latter’s syndicated radio program “America Tonight with Kate Delaney” to talk about his book “Cancer Winner” and the inspiration behind it.
Norman Ceasar shares his experience with prostate cancer. In his health and motivational book Cancer Winner: A Brave Odyssey of Overcoming Cancer’s Challenges and Emerging Victorious on the Other Side of Struggle, Norman tells his story to provide the importance and benefits of getting yearly check-ups. With this, he aims for cancer patients to claim their lives back and take control of them without the grips of a lethal disease.
A Physical Check-up Led to the Discovery of the Disease
Kate Delaney asked author Norman Ceasar what led him to write about his experiences with prostate cancer. Norman shared how he discovered his prostate cancer – an innocent, yearly physical check-up. Through this check-up, he discovered that his PSA (prostate-specific antigen) was high, which means that he has a possibility of getting prostate cancer.
“My primary doctor said, ‘Okay, we understand, and we can feel your prostate is enlarged. That’s probably causing your numbers to go up, as well as your PSA. But we’re not sure. I want you to see a specialist. I want you to see my doctor,’ to take care of my prostate to make sure. And so I went to see his doctor, Dr. White, and he said, ‘Well, we can feel it.’”
The Cancer was 96% Curable
Norman shared a story about how his doctor was thankful for his condition. He was flabbergasted because his findings were positive for prostate cancer.
Norman shared a story about how his doctor was thankful for his condition. He was flabbergasted because his findings were positive for prostate cancer.
“We did a biopsy, and after that, about a week or two later, he called me on the phone. I was getting in my mail drive, and my phone rang. And fortunately, I wasn’t driving. I was just getting in. So, I asked the phone. He said, ‘This is Dr. White, and your work has come back, and you have prostate cancer. But thank the Lord, we caught it early.’ I was wondering, ‘Why do you thank the Lord? I had cancer!’ and he said, ‘The reason we’re so thankful as doctors is because a lot of time we find this cancer late. And we found it early with you, so it’s more durable. It’s like 96% curable when we catch it at your stage. Very early.’”
Norman’s Actions
After learning that the cancer was 96% curable, Norman Ceasar shared that he just took the win. Already three years away from retirement, the author decided to take the doctor’s advice and take the procedure to remove his prostate gland.
“I think I just took the win out of myself. My doctor, Dr. Franklin, was my primary doctor when I went back and told him about the results. He prayed for me. He said, ‘You’re gonna be cured, so don’t worry about it. Go get the procedure.’”
What’s It Like to Take the Procedure
Norman Ceasar shared what it was like to take the procedure of removing his prostate without damaging the nerves, which may result in impotency. He said that the procedure took two to three hours to finish. His doctor said that the procedure went well and that he could already be discharged two to three days later.
Training After Work
Author Norman Ceasar narrated his experience after the prostate gland removal procedure. After recovering from the procedure, he started running to keep himself in shape. As he aged more, he changed the running routine to walking and Zumba classes.
The Challenges of Cancer
Host Kate Delaney was curious about the biggest challenge that the author encountered when he was still experiencing the grips of cancer. He said the biggest challenge for men would be mental.
“I think the biggest challenge was mental. The mental can affect manhood. And no man wants to deal with anything that affects manhood. I wanna share with men that it’s not your fault that you have this cancer. It’s very toxic. We need to stay on top of it so we can survive and live.
