Jehovah Elyon combines two Hebrew names for God: Jehovah (YHWH) and Elyon. On one hand, Jehovah refers to the personal name of God, often translated as “LORD” (in all caps) in English Bibles. It signifies God’s self-existence and eternal nature. On the other hand, Elyon is a Hebrew word meaning “Most High,” emphasizing God’s supreme authority, sovereignty, and exalted position above all things. Therefore, Jehovah Elyon means “The LORD Most High” or “The LORD, the Supreme One,” highlighting God’s ultimate authority over heaven and earth.
The name Jehovah Elyon has appeared in Biblical passages like in Psalm 7:17, “I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.” and Psalm 97:9, “For You, LORD, are most high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.”.
Those who praise Jehovah Elyon but not His identification. Glory to Glory: The Indication and Identification of Jehovah-El Elyon by Alvan Quamina educates readers on such matters.
In a recent interview with Kate Delaney in “America Tonight with Kate Delaney,” Alvan talked about his book, including what inspired him to create it and the most significant lessons he learned about loving God.
Loving God and Getting to Know Him More
Alvan’s journey to the Lord begins with his family. His grandfather was a gospel minister who founded Fundamental Baptist missions in Trinidad and Tobago. It was also aligned with some churches and so on in the United States.
Alvan narrated that when his grandfather died, his father, who was also a minister, became the superintendent of the churches. He shared that other family members also serve God and inspired him to follow a similar path, noting that his spiritual path began even before his birth.
“My uncle was also a gospel minister, and my mother was. So, I do have a long history of relatives who were involved in ministry,” Alvan said.
When asked what his biggest lesson from childhood is, Alvan highlighted the importance of believing in God and following His footsteps.
“Principle that to really associate with God, one has to submit our lives to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. Because Jesus said, if you believe in me, you have eternal life. And so at a very early age, somewhere between five and seven years of age, I submitted my life to Christ,” he explained.
Alvan revealed that his first actual preaching was when he started a church on Saturdays for various people when he was a mere nine years old. Alvan and his family came to the United States in about the 1950s. During college, he went to the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary College section, where he was involved in being trained to be a minister of the gospel.
The Circumstances Surrounding Christ’s Birth
During the interview with Kate, Alvan discussed why he wrote his book. According to him, too many people seem to be taking God for granted, which prompted him to inspire others by writing about God’s magnificence.
“For instance, some people spoke of the man upstairs. And a lot of people had a vision of God as some old man with the long beard, with the long gown on, who was sitting there. And I wanted to let people know that this was not God, but God is quite different,” Alvan shared.
Alvan hopes his readers understand God’s greatness because he sustains and ministers everyone.
“I hope they take away the fact that what Psalms 135 and verse 3 say, God is great and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. We must remember that God is not someone that we can play around with. He is the creator of the universe, heaven, and earth…Psalm 139 points that out. And he cares for us,” he said.
