Pain is the experience wherein a person goes through physical suffering and/or discomfort that is caused by various matters, including but not limited to an illness or injury. Pain is a feeling that comes in a variety. Nevertheless, it is one that can only be displeasing, making it hard for a person to go through their life as usual.
When one feels pain, we seek both comfort and solution. While it is indeed logical to find the solution to every problem, as human as we all are, there are many times more than most would like to admit, that we go out there and seek comfort first, and sometimes it is the kind that could hurt people in the long run.
Seeking Comfort in Dark Crevices of the World
Life can become so overwhelming that it can reach a point where a person may become so frustrated or even desperate to seek comfort that they turn to something that is not good for them. Vices such as alcohol, drugs, sex, or any other form of self-harm, as self-harm can manifest in different forms – whatever it may be, sadly, as human as we are, seeking comfort in the darkest of crevices in the world is a high possibility.
In Recover Your Mission: How A Drunk From Wisconsin Became A Missionary In Haiti, a book written by Deb Runge, this dark part of life is the center of this literary work. Deb Runge writes this story with the intent of offering comfort to those who are struggling because of these dark vices that have taken over their lives.
In the book, Deb Runge – winner of the RMazing Bonanza S11 Level1 – says: “I know there are a lot of people out there who are struggling with many of the same things I have. I’ve decided to remove any mask of denial I may have been wearing and get real and raw, sometimes unfiltered.”
Feeling Hopeless in Your Life’s Journey
As much as we don’t appreciate negative feelings, it cannot be helped when someone is feeling that way, especially when they are going through a very difficult phase in their life. In the book, Deb opens up by saying that she, just like everyone else, has felt hopeless and helpless as she reached a point where she would drop her kids off to daycare and have a drink that she brought with her in the dash of her car.
Deb vulnerably shares that her drinking problem became so alarming that it reached a point where she would black out, still function, and then wonder after coming back to her senses what happened during that time. Life is meant to be lived, not just passed through, and definitely not in blackouts for hours!
Live the Happy Life That You Definitely Deserve
Everybody deserves the best things that life has to offer them. However, it is important to take note that in order to have good things in life, you must also do good and be consistent with it.
What I love about Deb Runge’s journey is that, after finally admitting to her problem, she took action. In the book, there is a quote that says: “Pain is God’s megaphone. We rarely change when we see the light. We change when we feel the heat,” and that is what Deb did, going through the process of pain, pressure, and change for a better and healthier life.
Recover Your Mission is truly a beautiful book and should definitely be read by not just those who are going through a similar situation as Deb in the past but also their loved ones and everyone so that everyone can begin to thrive in life and live in a community where everyone is kind.
