Many of us struggle with understanding ourselves because we are unsure of what grounds us and our passions.

We are confused about what grounds us and motivates us to do everyday tasks. Beyond this, we forget that we ground ourselves in Jesus. Our thoughts, words, and actions play a more significant role in his plan, and we should live accordingly, as our faith grounds us.

One reason this is so complicated is the growing rules of what it means to be a Christian. We can even ask, “Is God a Christian according to religious beliefs?” and wonder if all of these new beliefs that are imposed upon us are indeed what it means to become a Christian.

What Are The Ways for Understanding Ourselves

There is no perfect road to understanding ourselves. It differs from person to person and makes a big difference in how ready we are to challenge our views of the world and ourselves.

Free Ourselves of Societal Expectations and Norms

It is easy to get trapped in the materialistic world we live in today. We become so engrossed with things that do not matter that we care more about our status symbol or possessions. Often, we let these irrelevant things define who we are—what school we went to, what job we got, and how much our annual income became our position in an organization.

However, when we learn to let go of these things, free ourselves of societal expectations and definitions, and learn to create our own, we breakthrough a way of understanding ourselves founded on our own beliefs and values. This means that we have to let go of things that are being taught to us on social media and by our peers and let ourselves be the ones to decide what our goals and passions are.

Once we have let go of societal expectations and norms, we can reground by understanding ourselves—our passions, values, and what truly matters to us. This involves much self-reflection and enlightenment because we must know what is important to us.

A big part of this is our faith and belief in God. We know we are on earth to do good deeds and spread God’s mission. This means that as we try to live in this society, we must try to live out his values and be the beacon of Christ as we interact with others. Our faith is vital in reminding us why we are here in the first place and why we should continue to use the freedom given by God according to his will.

Understand our Mission as Christians

When we understand our Christian mission, we should not truly ground ourselves by what others say. However, we should follow the Bible and appreciate his works with his apostles. From there, we begin to realize that the Bible is the trustworthy source of our wisdom because it is the way for God to tell us what he wants us to do and how we can live out his virtues.

While the Bible is the primary source, we can use it as a basis when looking for other sources to understanding ourselves and our mission as Christians. This means that we can now attend Bible studies and listen to pastors or priests talk about the Bible and what God wants for us as long as we understand its roots in the Bible.

Live Out His Teachings

Living out his teachings by spreading the good word and advocating love is easy to say but challenging to do. When we live out his teachings, it does not mean doing good things as the bare minimum but emulating Christ in our thoughts, words, and actions. We become bearers of His Holy Name as we live out the values and

Sometimes, things test us and cause us to do things we are not actually grounded in. Whether it is peer pressure or the temptation to go for the easy way, we must strive to stay true to who we have discovered ourselves to be and adhere to the necessary values.
