For many years, Christina Balzani was a CAT MRI technologist, but then eventually found herself walking a different path after confronting her past childhood trauma.

And on a recent episode of “America Tonight with Kate Delaney,” she shared how that eventually led to publishing her story in the book Dry Your Eyes, Girl: From Surviving to Thriving After Childhood Sexual Abuse. The book opens up about her difficult past stemming from traumatic childhood sexual abuse. And in the process of speaking up, she had found her voice as well as a calling to help others rediscover theirs.

A Little Touch of Divine Intervention

Christina was victimized by an uncle when she was only five years old, until she was thirteen. And like many victims, she had found her attempts to report the crime to have met with suppression and a culture of silence.

The damage had undoubtedly impacted her long into her teen and adult years. It had even reached a point when she had begun experiencing hallucinations of her uncle.

However, she credits her turning around to a moment of divine intervention. She dreamt of Jesus, dying on the cross. The dream was so vivid that she could only compare it to the graphic imagery of The Passion of the Christ (despite this dream occurring way before the film was released). This moment is what turned her from a woman with an uncertain attitude towards faith to someone firmly convinced that God was calling her to be healed from her trauma.

Granted, she also acknowledged that the entire journey did not happen overnight. The process that she underwent took decades, and it still had lots of bumps, bad decisions, and other challenges.

Still, the result was worth it, and she is ready to help others in their own healing journey.

The #1 Rule for Childhood Sexual Abuse Victims

Perhaps the most powerful statement Christina has for her fellow victims is the affirmation that they are not to blame for what happened to them.

In fact, she goes as far as to strongly encourage them to wipe such feelings away using the best means available. These can include not only getting professional help, but also finding a trusted, ‘safe person’ to share their experience with.

Like many advocates, she is aware of the urgent need for safe spaces when it comes to victims of childhood sexual abuse. It is only in reclaiming their voice and speaking up that they can start freeing themselves, letting others be aware, and breaking negative cycles that would otherwise last generations.

Pursuing a Calling and Continuing to Speak Out

Today, Christina has been actively working as a life and support coach for young adults. She not only helps women, but also men who have had their own adverse childhood experiences with sexual abusers.

Her experience has made it much easier for her to see present negative behaviors and find their roots in the past. For example, she remembers her time being a person who strove too hard to be agreeable, and it became clear this was rooted in her trauma. The same went for several bad decisions, as well as a drug dependency problem.

Incidentally, this meant that she was far from done working as both an author and an advocate. It is why she has a second book (titled Dry Your Eyes, Woman) as well as an upcoming third book that will probably wrap it up as a three-part series.

That said, she is eager to broaden her horizons in telling her story and promoting her work. She is actively networking for speaking engagements, as well as online content creators. There are plans to have interviews with other podcasters in the space of combating child sex abuse. Because after rediscovering her voice, it only made sense for her to keep using it for those still struggling to speak up about their past.
