The World Carers Conversation 2022 is a free virtual summit that will discuss innovations, research, practices, and caregiving industry policies.

One Caregiver’s Journey, the caregiver book by Eleanor Gaccetta, introduced us to the world of caregivers and the challenges affecting them. We also featured articles further discussing other issues that caregivers and their clients face. Today, we present one of the most important summits for caregivers hosted by the National Alliance for Caregivers- World Carers Conversation.

The National Alliance for Caregivers is a group of national organizations that came together to cater to the needs of caregivers all across America. Founded in 1996 by Gail Gibson Hunt, the said umbrella organization worked tirelessly with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, the American Society on Aging, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care, Glaxo Wellcome, and the National Council on Aging, and the AARP (formerly called the American Association of Retired Persons) to address issues as well as shape public policy for caregivers and their patients. Along with various organizations, they also organize forums, gatherings, and conventions to strengthen solidarity among caregivers and discuss relevant agendas. The World Carers Conversation is the summit tackles relevant agendas that benefit caregivers and the industry.

This year’s World Carers Conversation will be a single-day virtual event on May 19.

Unlike World Carers Conversation 2020, a three-day virtual affair, this year, the event will be held from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm ET. Together with its constant partner, Embracing Carers, National Alliance for Caregiving gathers innovators, researchers, medical practitioners, policymakers, and carer advocates around the world to share the latest developments in the field of caregiving. The event is also meant to inspire young caregivers to commit to a career in the industry. The online meeting also hopes to discuss the innovations in research, practice, protocols, and policies that benefit caregivers, their organizations, and the population they are destined to serve.

The event is open to the public via Zoom and Facebook Live. The last World Carers Conversation, held in December 2020, enjoyed the support and participation of caregiving experts and stakeholders. Over 4,000 participants came from six continents and fifteen countries (Australia, Canada, China, France, Ghana, India, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States). This year, the summit is expected to accommodate the same or increased participants. Although the World Carers Conversation 2022 is scheduled for one day, it’s expected to cover many issues, especially those involving health and social care systems in various countries, the challenges for family caregivers, care delivery models, incentives and benefits and carer support. The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed many issues and unmet needs of family caregivers, and the summit will be an excellent time to talk about them.

World Carers Conversation 2022 will feature live and pre-recorded panels and lectures. It will also highlight three subject areas- promoting mental and emotional health and wellbeing, integrating caregivers into the healthcare team, and advancing economic security. Another exciting feature of the summit is the photo stories prepared by caregivers from various participating countries. The beauty of this virtual event is that participants may come and go over the course of the day (May 19, 2022, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm)

The summit is also an excellent time to catch up with other caregivers and other personalities actively involved in pushing forward the interests of caregivers worldwide.
