Progress is apparent as the world and the people living in it are constantly changing. While things are improving, some still need to catch up and need awareness. That is why, for those who are kind and knowledgeable, it is vital to be an ally against racism.
In these modern times, society has become more open to embracing each and every person. Communities have become more inclusive these days, welcoming members from various backgrounds as long as they are safe. Hence, the term of being an ally against racism.
Why by Marvin V. Blake is an epic literary work that is set in the years 1838 – 1863. The story centers on the lives of sisters who sadly live drastically opposite lives. One lives in a life of privilege, while the other lives under the shadows. The reason for this is that one is the daughter of the wife of Mr. Henry Billings. The second daughter is the love child between Mr. Henry Billings and one of his female black slaves.
In the past, discrimination was rather strong and rampant. Contrast and division were high, especially in the treatment between the two girls. Both girls had no choice but to adhere to the way the world was at the time.

Now that the world everyone currently lives in is progressive, people can work toward becoming better. Each person should make an effort to combat racism. Here are a few ways you can educate yourself, take action, and be a good ally against racism:
Address any form of racism and any other lack of justice in the community.
Whether it is at work, at the neighborhood, at school, at a restaurant or anywhere else, speak up whenever you can. Change starts when one person voices out their concerns especially when it comes to the treatment of other people.
Plan out an activity that helps expand anti-racism and promote diversity.
Set up a schedule where you can initiate to hold a lecture that will educate people on diversity, equity, and most of all, inclusion. The more people will attend such activities, the more chances that discrimination and racism will ideally be eradicated soon.
Form a club (if you can) and recruit and/or empower members.
They say the more the merrier, and that couldn’t be any truer in this case. The more people are encouraged to voice out for those affected by racism, the more we can take a step toward a better and more welcoming community.

Call out any form of racism and any other related inequities that one can encounter.
With the advent of technology, it can be used the way it should be: to be utilized in its essence. An example would be posting an objective statement online addressing moments of racism and helping out people who become victims of such moments. This way, such distasteful moments will hopefully never repeat again.
Take time to educate yourself in the best way that you can and reflect on it all.
Be the change that you wish to be in this ever-changing world. One drop of water can create a ripple, so if you take courage and commit yourself to lifelong learning, great changes are bound to happen! So, take that first step and encourage others to do the same.
