The featured author for this installment of “America Tonight with Kate Delaney” is K.A. Blaze. For a lot of people, she is a dedicated life coach and teacher who loves helping others succeed as much as she loves going on beach trips.
But as a novelist, she is also passionate about romance, second chances, and the beautiful, sunlit backdrops that serve as the setting of her stories. It is why she is very proud to have released Waves of Affection, a story where she brings all of that together and also shares a message of hope about finding love again.
K.A. Blaze shared with her host Kate Delaney about what inspires her to write such stories, as well as how it relates to many other areas of her own life.
The Creative Spark That Sent The Author’s Pen Blazing
Much of the novel was born out of a fun, creative process that involved a whole family that Blaze has been close friends with. Being a virtual teacher, she got to know this family through a colleague. At some point, Blaze ended up also being a teacher for their kids and they have been a second family to her ever since.
It just so happened that the husband is quite passionate about construction. And for fun, she decided to toss ideas back and forth with him about hotels and beaches to go in her romance stories. Combined with the story she knew about how he and his wife met, the seed for the whole novel was starting to sprout big and fast.
When Literary Art Reflects Love and Life
The characters in Waves of Affection are intended to be among its biggest draws (and show how much Blaze loves pouring energy into them). The male lead, Silas Metaxas, is a multi-layered individual who is often lost in his work of construction design and struggles to connect with most people outside it.
Given the nature of his personality, his eventual love interest, Ashley, spends much of the story trying to figure him out, setting the hot-and-cold tempo of the book’s love story.
All of this happens amidst gorgeous, tropical beaches inspired by Blaze’s own trips to Carmel-by-the-Sea. What was truly surprising for Blaze, however, was the number of unfamiliar things she would be researching and bringing in. While she had always wanted to be a romance author, she initially started writing cowboy romance stories. She did not expect that one of the books she would successfully complete and publish would be the one drawn from a totally different share of her life experiences.
From a Book Project to a Close Family Friendship
While the book’s successful publishing has certainly been a milestone, she gives a tremendous amount of credit to the Krugh family who had been with her all the way. What started as a cordial arrangement to provide virtual teaching to the kids became something that everyone was having so much fun getting involved in when Blaze started writing the story.
A great number of real-life events in the family’s life (from the marriage of parents and time spent with the kids to even some episodes with extended family members) made their way into Waves of Affection.
Living the Dream and Helping Others Achieve Theirs
Being a teacher, Blaze knows the importance of learning and she is even happy to take a lot of criticism for her work as they are also lessons on writing better romances. It is why she already considers herself a success and simply enjoys what she is doing when acting on inspiring ideas for her next novel.
Whether it is the research for unfamiliar topics, drawing on her past experiences, or using her author experience to coach others who want to try, she is simply loving it all and is eager to keep going at it.
