Organized by the American Library Association, a non-profit organization that promotes libraries and library education in the United States of America and across the globe, the ALA book fair is one of the most anticipated book fairs of the year.

The ALA book fair is an event for librarians, library staff, people from the academe, teachers, authors, publishers, friends of libraries, and respective trustees. It will be a time for opportunities as programs and activities geared towards updates, relevant legislation, and policies, and discussions affecting libraries and their continuous development are sure to happen. It will also be a time to meet and connect with like-minded people.

COVID PROTOCOLS

Since the very threat of the pandemic is still very real, it is crucial to keep ourselves safe and protected when attending conventions. That should be everyone’s priority before anything else. As such, it is vital to follow COVID safety protocols when attending such a huge and people-packed event.

The American Library Association Annual Conference has already posted its guidelines and general information on the COVID 19 Health Safety Measures that will be followed during the six-day event. However, it still bears repeating, mainly to spread the knowledge.

The following is required for guests and attendees to participate in the ALA Annual Conference.

A physical or digital vaccination card complete with identification
A negative COVID-19 PCR or Rapid test administered within 48 hours must be provided by registrants. These test results must come from an official medical facility, clinic, or pharmacy. Self and Home tests are not accepted.

Masks will also be required throughout the event. This includes all ALA events, and ALA contracted venues. Hotel meetings, the convention center, the exhibit floor, and the shuttle buses will all require masks to be accessed. This is regardless of whether it is required by law at the time of the Conference.

To maximize safety measures, guests and attendees will be asked to:

Follow social distancing protocols whenever possible.
Not attend the Conference if you have knowingly been exposed or tested positive for COVID-19 within fourteen days before the Conference. The same will also be asked if you are experiencing or have experienced COVID-19 symptoms within fourteen days before the Conference.
Alert ALA if you experience symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 during the Conference or within fourteen days after participating in the event. This information will be strictly confidential and will only be used to inform other guests and attendees of the possibility of exposure.

Guests should understand that attending significant events like conferences and conventions can increase the risk of contracting COVID-19. It is with this knowledge that they should participate in such events.

The American Library Association is not responsible for the Venue’s COVID-19 prevention efforts.
