What are childrens-memoir books?

Childrens memoir books or lesson books are literary works for children based on recollections by authors. Just like other memoirs, they are autobiographies that speak about a specific time. Children/kids memoirs usually talk about childhood, their time in school, family, or their growing up years. They provide lessons and inspiration to young readers. According to commonsensemedia.orh

“Kids crave authentic stories, and what’s more authentic than the story of a life written by the person who lived it? These compelling memoirs and autobiographies reveal the challenges and triumphs of ordinary people, often in extraordinary situations — from war, poverty, and physical disability to athletic stardom, social activism, and the search for love and acceptance. These books can help build empathy, make kids feel less alone in their struggle, and inspire young readers as they see what people went through to get where they are.”

Some of the recently published childrens-memoir books include Taking Flight, a memoir that is soon to be a motion picture by Michaela and Elaine DePrince, How I Discovered Poetry a book by celebrated poet Marilyn Nelson, and Be Prepared by Vera Brosgol, a funny and hilarious illustrated book about a summer camp experience.

Perhaps the greatest takeaway from Jacquelyn Hester Colleton-Akins’s Prediction Stories is Akin’s very own childhood experience that she shared with us in this book. Full of values, respect, gratitude, and love for family, her book showed us the greatest adventures and stories we can have are the ones we share with our family and loved ones. Jacquelyn Hester Colleton-Akins’ narratives are not only thrilling and entertaining but also they encourage us to embrace life, to experience its beauty, to absorb its lessons, and to celebrate its wonders.

The title Prediction Stories is taken from one of the story categories that Jacquelyn’s father would tell them. Every Friday, the family is set to have a story session with their father. As early as 2 p.m., the television is turned off and the three Hester kids help their folks in preparing dinner so they could enjoy a wonderful story from their father afterward. Jacquelyn’s father would either tell them childhood stories, dead-people stories, family life stories, or prediction stories. Prediction stories are special because their father would tell them a prediction and somehow many of these stories came true. Jacquelyn Hester Colleton-Akins even recalls a particular story that their dad told them in 1955 that somehow had a very remarkable impact on them. Akins also revealed that his father has a gift for predicting some events for other people as well. This is perhaps why Akins chose Prediction Stories to be the title of her memoir.
