The Miracle of Wendy Whimple

The Miracle of Wendy Whimple is a young adult fiction by Attilio Guardo. It was published in 2019. The book tells the story of an extraordinary young girl born with a twisted short leg named Wendy. Her mother, Michaela Vandemere Whimple decided to give Wendy away and left her in the care of her uncle and aunt. The loving couple raised and treated Wendy as their own. One they, they discovered that young Wendy possesses a special gift, the power to heal. Wendy has been using her unique skills to heal animals. With the help from a mysterious ball of light whom Wendy calls “the Guardian of Affliction”, she can master her healing powers.

As the story progresses, we learn of the Pullo brothers, mean kids who take pleasure in hunting and shooting songbirds. Despite her attempts to hide her special ability from them, the brothers soon learn of this. One day, one of the Pullo brothers got into an accident while hunting songbirds. The injured brother begs Wendy to restore her eyesight. However, despite her efforts, Wendy fails to heal the injured boy. Wendy also realized that she can only heal animals and small creatures, but not humans. Angered by her failure, the Pullo brothers trapped Wendy in the woods and began to hurt her. Out of nowhere, the Guardian of Affliction decides to appear, frightening the boys away. This was a turning point in Wendy’s life as her mysterious ally decided to take away one gift and replace it with another.

Just like the rest of Attilio Guardo’s works, The Miracle of Wendy Whimple is filled with heartwarming moments and wonderful lessons. In this book, Guardo imparts the importance of respect for other creatures and other people. Another highlight of the book is faith in God’s ways. Each one of us is special and unique in our own way, and therefore we must value one another. 

About the Attilio Guardo

Attilio Guardo began at an early age. Attilio wrote his first story at nine years old. It was a 55-page novel entitled “Three Ways. When he was only seven, he wrote his first short play. Guardo graduated finished his Bachelor of Science in General Business Management at the University of Hartford. He then went on to become a member of the U.S. Army. After his stint in the army, Attilio Gurado began a career in the accounting and management profession. 

In his later years, Attilio Gurado decided to revisit his love for writing and began writing a series of children’s stories. Many of his children’s books are inspired by his grandchildren. Some of his published works also include young adult fiction books such as A Special Time in Clear Creek and Haloween in Clear Creek. Aside from writing stories, he spends his time playing with his grandchildren and painting with oil and watercolor.
